F2b - How to work with Fractions >1 

Does your child need help understanding improper fractions and mixed numbers? Do they struggle with fractions that equal more than 1 (fractions >1)?

These videos use images and animation to explain what improper fractions and mixed numbers are, how to simplify improper fractions and mixed numbers, and how to convert from one to the other.

From the Government Framework for Maths - Content Domian References:

5F2a recognise mixed numbers and improper fractions and convert from one form to the other; write mathematical statements >1 as a mixed number [e.g. 2 5 + 4 5 = 6 5 = 11 5]

6F2 use common factors to simplify fractions; use common multiples to express fractions in the same denomination

5F2b identify name and write equivalent fractions of a given fraction, represented visually, including tenths and hundredths
